AMD Ryzen 5 (Model 3600 with 6 Cores/12 Threads) Mini Tower Computer with 16 GB DDR4 RAM, GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER GPU w/6 GB GDDR6 and 1 TB (NVMe) SSD Thank you for your interest in this item and please visit our store for other offerings. We have very reasonable shipping terms and combine orders to save money (for customers) on shipping costs. We also maintain customer friendly return/refund/exchange policies. Product Description: Listing Update #1…This is not so much an update as it is a brief comment about the computers and related parts I have available for sale. Personal computers (and in particular desktop computers) have always been a hobby of mine. I’ve enjoyed tinkering with this stuff over the years and have accumulated a number of items during this time…some new and some used. I am not an expert on the subject…more of a “do-it-yourself” enthusiast…but I will still try to answer any questions you may have related to my computer listings. Thank you. Listing Update #2…I am getting some questions about new parts and used parts included with this build. I can confirm that all the parts in this build are new, except for the graphics card. Although, each used graphics card included in one of my builds has been thoroughly inspected, cleaned and tested. This includes new thermal paste (in all cases) and new thermal pads (when the old ones have deteriorated to the point where they need replacing). I’ll even replace fans when the original ones no longer spin like new. Please refer to the notes below for more details on this particular graphics card. Original Listing… I try to build computers with parts that make sense when put together. These computers support our new-old-stock bicycle shop and we always have a few of them at home. Then there are the computers I make available to others (like this offering). It’s similar to some of the computers we use on a daily basis, but I don’t have a business or personal need at this time, so I can offer this one for sale. My computers usually do not “shine” the brightest with LEDs (although some shine brighter than others), but my components represent a good value. As an example, if I am putting together a computer with a new and high-powered processor, then I will avoid using other bare minimum or inferior components, just to achieve a lower price point. The “value” is in a well-balanced system with good quality components, and that is always my goal. With all of that in mind, here is an AMD Ryzen third generation (Zen 2) computer with recognizable (name brand) parts that match up fairly well. Although, and as you might expect, there could be a new graphics card spec’d with this computer. The problem is the challenging marketplace for selected new parts, including the relatively high MSRPs for new GPUs. So we have opted for a better value in a used graphics card. This approach allows for a solid computer with respectable capabilities (see below for more details), while still maintaining that all important upgrade path. Having said the above, I thought it might also be helpful if I shared a specifications sheet of sorts that provides more details. I know it’s a lot of information, but I want folks to have the ability to research the components that make-up this computer (and compare to others). CPU: AMD third generation (Zen 2 micro-architecture) Ryzen 5 Series – Model 3600 (6 cores / 12 threads running at 3.6 GHz base / 4.2 GHz turbo for the clock speed and rated at 65 watts for power consumption). Also note the cooler upgrade from the stock Wraith Stealth cooler, which is okay, to the ID-COOLING SE-224-XT (black) cooler with a decent aluminum fin stack and four copper heat pipes. This is likely more cooler than you need for this processor, as confirmed by the low temperatures during stress testing. I just really like the value vs. performance of these coolers and the ability to handle the added heat generated by any reasonable processor upgrade. It’s also worth noting this processor, and the B450M motherboard it is mounted on, meet all of the requirements for a Windows 11 upgrade. For those that are curious, Microsoft has communicated on their official website that they will support Windows 10 through October 2025. So there is no real urgency to upgrade to Windows 11 at this time, but there is some comfort in knowing the upgrade path is available with this new computer whenever desired. Motherboard: ASRock B450M Pro4 that is spec’d to the Micro ATX form factor and an AM4 socket. (Note: To maximize the performance of this motherboard, I was sure to install the latest B450 chipset drivers.) This is probably my favorite Micro ATX motherboard to use when building a second generation Ryzen 5 computers. It’s a value oriented board, but still includes a decent feature set for a motherboard at this price point (less than $100). Although, it’s the power delivery where this motherboard shines, especially at this price point. My research indicates this motherboard has a large 3 (Vcore) + 3 (Vsoc) phase VRM (Voltage Regulator Module) with decent/functional heatsinks to further aid in cooling. When I say this is a large 3 + 3 phase VRM, I mean that ASRock built this VRM (especially the Vcore part) with additional mosfets and chokes (or inductors) that allow for better (and cooler) power delivery to the processor. Now I will be the first to admit, there are better B450 motherboards (but again…probably not at this price point). Case: Rosewill (Model FBM-X2) mini tower that is Micro ATX / Mini ITX compatible. Construction material is mostly steel with a plastic front panel / bezel. Case dimensions (H x W x D) are 14.96″ x 7.48″ x 13.78″. This is certainly an entry-level case, but after building in a number of different inexpensive cases, I like this one as well or better than most. For a relatively small case, the expansion options are respectable. There is one internal 3.5″ drive bay/mount (for a hard drive), three internal 2.5″ drive mounts (for SSDs) and four expansion slots. The case does have its limits, as their is no power supply shroud, no dvd drive cage, limited cable management options, etc., but it’s still a fairly well designed and constructed entry-level offering. I guess I just like it’s simplicity, with the all steel side panels and a plastic front panel/bezel that is not paper thin. The result of which is a surprisingly sturdy case, especially at this price point. I should also mention there are three Antec 120 mm case fans (two mounted at the front for intake and one mounted at the rear for exhaust). Only one case fan was included with the case, so I added two more to improve the overall case airflow. This modest improvement compliments other component choices and facilitates any reasonable upgrades that may generate more heat. Memory: OLOy 16 GB (2 x 8 GB of DDR4, PC4-25600 RAM running at 3200 MT/s or MegaTransfers/second). This is not to be confused with the true clock speed of 1600 MHz x 2 (because DDR memory performs two operations per cycle). Said another way, MT/s is sometimes labeled as effective MHz, which is why we also see the clock speed of 3200 MT/s referred to as 3200 MHz. Then there is memory timing…measured as 16-18-18-36 for this particular memory kit. These numbers generally describe latency, which is the amount of time between memory operations (including the amount of time it takes for memory to respond to a data request). So in summary, higher clock speed numbers are better (because this tells us how much data our memory can move…send/receive…per second), while lower timing/latency numbers are better (because this generally measures the delay between memory operation). Storage: Western Digital Blue SN550 1 TB NVMe solid state drive (SSD) with a licensed (digital) copy of Windows 10 Professional installed. I want to confirm this SSD includes the newer and more advanced “Non-Volatile Memory Express” (NVMe) interface that allows for much faster data transfer speeds (PCIe 3.0 running at x4 lanes). Additionally, this SSD takes advantage of the “M.2 2280” form factor, which means it installs directly onto the motherboard with no cables and takes up very little space (measuring only 22 mm wide x 80 mm long). Graphics: ASUS TUF GAMING GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER OC Edition graphics card running at 1530 MHz (base clock) and 1815 MHz (boost clock) with 6 GB of 192-bit GDDR6 RAM (running at 14000 MHz) and a dual-fan cooler. Then there are the rear shield ports: 1 x HDMI, 1 x DVI-D and 1 x DisplayPort. As mentioned above, this is a used graphics card that has been thoroughly inspected, cleaned and tested. More specifically, we carefully disassembled this GPU so we could inspect the PCB, heat-sink, fans and fan shroud. This allows us to (at minimum) clean these component pieces with high pressure air and apply new thermal paste on the heat spreader that covers the GPU die. I also inspected the thermal pads (if any) and noted they were all in really good shape, so there was no need to replace them. Lastly, the fans still spin like new, so I left them alone (other than a good cleaning). (Note: The graphics card drivers were also updated directly from the NVIDIA website.) This graphics card incorporates GeForce 16 Series technology (Turing architecture) released by NVIDIA in 2019. So it’s a slightly older graphics card and should not be considered as an equivalent to many of today’s newer and more expensive offerings. Looking back one generation to the GeForce 10 Series technology (Pascal architecture), this graphics card would have been the equivalent of the formidable GTX 1070. Needless to say, it’s impressive how fast technology advances. Continuing this analysis, all the GeForce 20 Series graphics cards (with the same Turing architecture and first generation ray tracing) will be faster and more expensive than this offering. Although, the RTX 2060 performance is only slightly better than this graphics card. Looking ahead to the GeForce 30 Series technology (Ampere architecture) released by NVIDIA in 2022, the entry-level RTX 3050 will also be slightly faster than this offering (although quite possibly within the margin of error, depending on the application or game). Notwithstanding the architecture discussion, this graphics card is still a “value-play” relative to newer and more expensive models. Although, for those that enjoy gaming in their spare time, this GPU is still capable (especially at “1080p”). Newer big-budget (“Triple-A” or “AAA”) titles may need to be played at lower settings, but just about everything else should be playable at higher details (for a better experience). Audio: Integrated Realtek ALC892 audio that supports up to 7.1 (8 channel) surround sound w/8 speakers (integrated means the sound card is built onto the motherboard) LAN: Integrated Realtek RTL8111H chipset w/transfer rate up to 1000 Mbps or 1 Gbps Wireless LAN (aka WiFi): Not included, but I can upgrade to an Intel dual band wireless (AC 3168) 5th generation PCIe card with Bluetooth capabilities for an additional $20. Power Supply: Seasonic Core GM-500 (500 watt / semi-modular)…which is more power than you need for this system, because nothing is overclocked (so everything is running at stock speeds to help ensure long-term stability). The maximum power draw for this system under heavy load will be less than 250 watts, with the graphics card responsible for about half of those watts (under the same heavy load scenario). I like to build computers with power supplies that will not be stressed beyond 75% of their rated output, even under heavy load. This seems to promote a longer component life, while also offering a cooler/quieter system. Given this conservative approach, we have an upper limit of about 375 watts for this unit, or around 125 watts of untapped (and safe) power for any upgrades. Note: I have also mounted this power supply with the fan facing down to draw-in outside air from the bottom of the case. There is a removable mesh filter on the bottom of the case that allows for this mounting position. Please check the mesh filter periodically for excessive dust and clean when necessary. Also, avoid setting the computer on carpet (unless elevated with books, etc.), as this could limit airflow and damage the power supply over time. Input/Output ports (front panel): two black USB Type-A (2.0 running at 480 Mb/s), one blue USB Type-A (3.2 Gen 1 running at 5 Gb/s), an audio input (microphone) and an audio output (speaker/headphone)…there is also a hard drive LED (red), an on/off button with a blue LED indicator and a reset button Input/Output ports (rear shield): one PS/2 (mouse or keyboard), video (see “Graphics” above), two black USB Type-A (2.0 running at 480 Mb/s), four blue USB Type-A (3.2 Gen 1 running at 5 Gb/s), one blue USB Type-A (3.2 Gen 2 running at 10 Gb/s), one USB Type-C (3.2 Gen 2 running 10 Gb/s), a RJ-45 Network (LAN) with LED indicator, blue audio input (various devices), green audio output (headphone, two-channel speakers or front speakers) and pink audio input (microphone) Storage ports/sockets: four SATA 3.0 ports, one M.2 Socket 3 with Type M key that will accommodate sizes 2242/2260/2280 (PCIe 3.0 support up to x4 lanes for SSD) and one M.2 Socket 3 with Type M key that will accommodate sizes 2230/2242/2260/2280 (SATA 3.0). Note1: performance assumes a Ryzen CPU or APU is installed on this motherboard. If an Athlon processor is installed, the performance may be less (with fewer lanes dedicated in some cases for M.2 SSDs). Note2: The SATA 3.0 data transfer rate is stated at 6 Gb/s (750 MB/s), but it’s actually less due to the overhead caused by the 8b/10b SATA encoding scheme. This lowers the actual transfer rate to about 80%, or 4.8 Gb/s (600 MB/s). Note2: The PCIe 3.0 data transfer rate is 8 Gb/s (1 GB/s) per lane and the PCIe 2.0 data transfer rate is 4 Gb/s (500 MB/s) per lane. So as it relates to PCIe supported sockets, just multiply the number of lanes available by the applicable PCIe transfer rate and this will give you the theoretical maximum bandwidth for that socket. FYI: PCIe overhead is only about 3% due to an efficient encoding scheme. So PCIe transfer rates are closer to their theoretical maximums relative to SATA transfer rates. Note3: SATA SSDs are usually B+M keyed and this hybrid key design will fit in either a B or M keyed socket. Expansion slots: one PCIe 3.0 x16 slot running at x16 lanes, one PCIe 2.0 x16 slot running at x4 lanes and one PCIe 2.0 x1 slot running at x1 lane. Note1: performance assumes a Ryzen CPU is installed on this motherboard. If a Ryzen APU or Athlon processor is installed, the performance may be less (with fewer lanes dedicated in some cases). Operating system: Windows 10 Professional that is upgradable to Windows 11 (64-bit digitally licensed copy that has been updated…see discussion that follows) BIOS Update and Windows Installation… In an attempt to make the computer as “turn-key” as possible upon receipt, I performed the following tasks after building this machine. First, I updated the system BIOS to the latest version for this particular processor/motherboard combination. Next I created a Windows 10 Installation Media flash drive from the Microsoft website (using an ADATA 32 GB thumb drive that I will include with this offering). I then installed a digitally licensed copy of Windows 10 Pro and clicked through the Windows prompts with an offline account setup. This approach allowed me to update Windows without entering any personal information. FYI, Windows is likely going to prompt you to create an online Microsoft account, or login to an existing account, once you begin using this computer. In fact, Windows Security (within Windows Settings) considers a Microsoft account, and the benefits that go with it, to be a security enhancement. I suppose opinions may vary as to this claim, but a Microsoft account does have some benefits. One that comes to mind is the free access to 5 GB of Microsoft’s cloud storage (referred to as OneDrive). Then there is the benefit that this computer meets all the requirements for a free Windows 11 upgrade. I am confident with this claim because I’ve also enabled both TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot within the BIOS, which represent a couple of the steps necessary to ready a computer for the eventual move to Windows 11. You may confirm Windows 11 readiness by navigating your way to the Update and Security tab through Windows Settings. At this point, Microsoft includes a brief note that confirms this system meets the minimum requirements to run Windows 11, and you may upgrade for free at this time. Although (and as mentioned earlier), Microsoft has communicated on their official website that they will support Windows 10 through October 2025. So there is no real urgency to upgrade to Windows 11 at this time, but there is some comfort in knowing the upgrade path is available with this computer whenever desired. Stress Testing for Stability… Finally, I go through a routine that attempts to test the reliability/stability of the computer before I put it to work in our shop or at home (or make it available for sale). This testing attempts to “stress” the computer to bring to light any hardware problems in a timely manner. Now I know there are many approaches to stress testing a computer, and I am not implying my approach is the best, but I take comfort that I likely stress these computers (for brief periods mind you) beyond anything they will probably incur during normal use for their lifetime. For those that are interested, I load the following freeware programs: 3DMark Demo, CPU-Z, FurMark, HWMonitor, IntelBurnTest, Prime95, Unigine Heaven and Superposition. Some of these programs help to identify and monitor system hardware, while others attempt to stress this hardware. More specifically, here is my approach to stressing the computer to give me some assurances the system is stable. First, I will run IntelBurnTest at the standard setting as an initial stress test to the processor/system (and I will run 10 cycles, which does not take very long). I then run Unigine Heaven for around 30 minutes to test the discrete graphics card (or integrated graphics). If I do not identify any problems at this point, I will then re-run IntelBurnTest at very high settings for another 10 cycles (which takes longer). I follow this up with 3DMark Demo and choose the popular Time Spy and Fire Strike programs, because they both have graphics and processor tests. Next I will load the newest Unigine benchmarking application, Superposition, and run this a couple of times to further assess performance and stability. If I still do not detect any problems (meaning all the programs to this point are running fine and system temperatures are reasonable), then I run the Prime95 blender test for maybe 8-10 cycles to further stress the processor/system for close to an hour. Finally, I run FurMark, which really stresses the graphics hardware for maybe another 20-30 minutes (or until temperatures appears to level off). It’s also worth noting that I monitored CPU, VRM and GPU temperatures during stress testing. These temperature readings were taken in an office environment with an ambient temperature of around 21 degrees Celsius (so around 70 degrees Fahrenheit). All of these temperatures were well within factory specs. and likely higher than anything you would experience given the unrealistically heavy load placed on this computer during stress testing. Follow-up…I am getting some folks that are asking questions about any scores recorded during some of the testing. I don’t know them all, but I do write down a few, and will share them here… Unigine (two runs at high details): Heaven: 3851 (152.9 fps) / 3850 (152.8 fps) Superposition: 8503 (63.6 fps) / 8493 (63.5 fps) 3DMark Demo Time Spy (two runs): First: 6114 (Graphics: 5983 / Processor: 6998) Second: 6282 (Graphics: 5989 / Processor: 7027) Fire Strike (two runs): First: 14776 (Graphics: 16375 / Processor: 19705 / Combined: 7011) Second: 14778 (Graphics: 16361 / Processor: 19700 / Combined: 7036) Please keep in mind these scores are based on all hardware running at manufacturers’ stock speeds (so no overclocking). This is my preference for computers that will be relied upon in our small business and for those (like this one) that I make available for sale. Please also understand, I cannot warranty a computer I sell that has been overclocked once it leaves my shop (and please see below for more warranty details). Condition and Packaging… In terms of condition, I want to confirm (again) this is a new computer with the exception of the graphics card (as discussed above). I have kept the factory box that protected the computer case when it was shipped to me. So I will use this heavy cardboard case box (with all it’s protective factory foam) to re-package this computer. Additionally, I have slightly larger boxes that I will use to re-package the case box. In other words, each computer will be double-boxed to help ensure safe transit during shipping. Lastly, we will purchase online tracking, full insurance coverage and signature confirmation service with all computer sales to protect both of us in the unlikely event there is a shipping problem. I know the additional packaging and shipping services cost a little more money (and we won’t charge for these extra packaging/service costs in our shipping fee), but we like the peace of mind knowing we are doing our absolute best to protect the computer. Support and Warranty Information… As alluded to above, this computer is similar (in terms of the parts and specs.) to those that support our bicycle parts business, as well as those we have at home. So I expect them to function for years, and hopefully until they age to the point where they need to be upgraded or replaced (and this is the reason I try to build with name brand parts). Now I cannot warranty a computer for years, but it’s been my experience that consistent use over 2-3 months (or 60-90 days) will usually bring to light most factory defect (hardware) problems. So let me be conservative and offer a 120-day warranty period from the date of purchase against any hardware defects. All I ask in return is that you exercise reasonable care in using this computer, and this includes no overclocking, as this will void any warranty (from me and the manufacturer). After this 120-day period, I will still try to help deal with manufacturers (related to any parts that fail within their respective warranty periods). Unfortunately, I cannot warranty software. I have included a Windows 10 Installation Media flash drive that you may use to reinstall Windows in the event you run into software problems that require a reset or clean install of the operating system. I can also try to help with the reloading of any drivers that I may have installed during my original Windows setup (prior to selling/shipping the computer). If you have any other questions related to this re-installation process, I will do my best to help. Although, questions related to other software you may load onto the computer are likely beyond my level of expertise (just trying to be honest here) and should be directed at the applicable software vendor. You may visit our store by clicking on this “Store Home Page” link. Note to domestic customers regarding oversized package shipping… For domestic packages (within the continental US), FedEx Ground or FedEx Home Delivery Service generally offers the lowest shipping rate for oversized packages. For customers that prefer US Postal Services (USPS), including the more timely USPS Priority Mail, we will include these shipping options as well. Finally, for those that live outside the continental US (i.e., Alaska, Hawaii and the US Territories), USPS Retail Ground, Parcel Select Ground and Priority Mail services represent the best value (with USPS Priority Mail offering the fastest service). Note to international customers regarding oversized package shipping… International shipping requirements vary for larger packages (including size limitations from country to country). As a result, international customers should contact us before purchasing larger items. We are then able to research shipping options to determine if we are able to ship a particular oversized item to your country and then provide an accurate shipping quote. This way we will avoid any confusion or misunderstanding with respect to international shipping of oversized packages. Note to international customers regarding customs… We also apologize to those that feel their country import taxes, duties and brokerage fees are excessive. As a small US business, we are required by customs’ laws to declare each order as a retail sale. Additionally, the declared order value must be equal to total store purchases and/or winning auction bids (less any shipping costs, as these are not considered in the declared value). As a result, each customer will be responsible for paying his/her own country taxes, duties and brokerage fees, which will be collected upon delivery. Again, we apologize for these additional costs, but we cannot afford the penalties and fines that come with breaking customs’ laws…so we have to strictly abide by them.
