This unique contemporary art sculpture, titled “Shackleton Base,” is an original creation by American artist Kreg Kallenberger. Handmade in 1994 using hot cast optical glass, this piece is signed by the artist and does not come with a certificate of authenticity. However Mr. Kallebergers Optical Glass Sculptures are so unique they are clearly made by him and this beautiful glass sculpture is a clearly one of a kind. Measuring 5 inches in depth, 14 inches in height, and 20 inches in width, this abstract sculpture is to honor Sir Ernest Shackleton’s British Antarctic Expedition of 1907-1909. Kallenberger makes good use of his striking contemporary glass style in an homage to the stark and icy landscape of Antarctica, this fine art piece will be a standout addition to any art collection and as with all fine glass art this sculpture will only increase in value with time. “Shackleton’s Base” showcases Kallenberger’s talent for using light, space, and the inherent refraction/reflections of Optical Glass to create a dynamic and visually stunning piece. The optical glass material used in production was carefully cut and optically polished and then meticulously engraved to produce a varied “icy” finish.
