Theodore Haviland New York 4 Rimmed Soup Bowls 7.75″ HP Garden Flowers 1945-1956 Elegant Decorative Set of 4 RIMMED SOUP BOWLS 7 3/4″ from Theodore Haviland New York, New York, Smooth Rim w/ GOLD Trim, Hand Painted LARGE PINK TULIPS & BLUE POPPIES w/Leaves & Stem, GARDEN FLOWERS Pattern produced 1945-1966, circa 1945-1956 due to mark being used 1937-1956 DESCRIPTION: This set of 4 rimmed soup bowls was produced in 1945-1956 time period. The hand painted pattern consists of a spray with a large pink tulips and blue poppies, green leaves buds and stems. The background color behind the flowers is the high white of the porcelain. This has the laurel leaf garland pattern on the rim. The smooth rims are trimmed in gold. This pattern is identified as Garden Flowers. Please check our eBay store for other items in this Garden Flowers pattern. CONDITION: While this set of 4 rimmed soup bowls is classified as used, the condition is superb. We find no nicks, chips, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the gold or the colors and no crazing. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The bowls have a height of 1 7/16” with a diameter of 7 3/4″. HISTORY/MARKS: The American-born David Haviland settled in Limoges, France in 1842 operating a porcelain exporting business to the USA. He purchased white ware from various factories and shipped it to his New York decorating studio. In 1847, he established a decorating studio in Limoges. He started producing porcelain in Limoges in 1865 and decorating it on site. His sons, Charles Edward and Theodore, continued the prosperous business after David’s death in 1879. Theodore left to establish his own firm in 1892 and was joined by his son, William, in 1903. In 1919, Theodore died and his firm passed on to his son. It remained in the Haviland family until 1972. The company known as Haviland Limoges is still in operation today. The Theodore Haviland “New York Made in America” red & black mark is mark T on the website havilandonline and was used 1937-1956. The Garden Flower pattern was produced 1945-1966. This is dated circa 1945-1956. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
