eBay Antique Silk Embroidered Needle Point Painting Courting Couple w/ Reverse Painted Glass-Set of 2 This is Beautiful and Delicate Set of 2 an Antique 1930’s Needle Painted- Silk Embroidered W/C Pastoral Scene Painting Courting Couple with Reverse Painted Glass and in a Gold and Black Frame. These are unique and wonderful small needle paintings miniatures featuring Francois Boucher (1703-1770) the Famous French Painter. They are complemented by embroidered flowers on top of the print, adding even more reality to this pastoral scene. This was a hobby in the late 19th century to do with fabric or handkerchiefs for gifts or home decor. Frame appears to be original under reverse black painted glass. Age: Circa 1930. This is an antique, NOT a reproduction. This Set included: 1/ “The Lovers”- Image of a courting couple in a field with flowers embroidery throughout, under painted glass. On the reverse side there is a description of this popular in the 19th century handicraft method. 2/ “The Proposal” -Depicts a couple sitting on a bench in a garden among flowers. A wonderful piece of art from the past. The Back has the following info: Francois Boucher was a Famous French Painter born in Paris and was first employed by an engraver to make designs and illustrations for books. In 1727 he went to Rome and became well known as a painter. He returned to Paris in 1731 and soon became a great favorite in society. He was employed by Madame de Pompadour both to paint her portrait and execute various decorative works. Many of his originals are now in the Louvre and other European museums and are valued very highly. Condition: Overall in Good antique condition. They show signs of wear- especially to the frames. There is tape/rips/damage on the back mostly. Please refer to the photos to view details.
