I have to clear some space on my shelves, so I need to part with some of my collection. THIS IS MY LAST ONE! I remember being quizzed on the Sovremenny destroyers as part of Target Recognition drills on my submarine. They were just hitting the fleet in the early 1980s, when I served on a boomer. I was impressed with the bristling array of weapons compared to the sleek and clean look of our own cruisers. Trumpeter upgraded their 1/200 ship line with their Sovremenny kits in the early 2000s. This groundbreaking kit set the standard for others to follow. The kit depicts one of several Sovremenny class Type 956E destroyers, including some from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). If you are interested in taking this kit further, I may still have the White Ensign Models Supplementary Set (WEM #PE2006) listed. I found over a dozen listings for this kit on eBay (mostly from China and Germany for some reason), but as a Top Rated Plus US Seller, I have this in stock and can reliably ship this kit to you very quickly. Here is what I have found online about this stunning, large-scale kit: The Trumpeter site (trumpeter-china.com) shows seven low-resolution photos of a completed and finished model, but none of the kit’s contents. The kit specifications are listed and the following information about the Sovremenny class DD is provided: The Sovremenny Class destroyer is the front-line Russian destroyer. It has a maximum displacement of 8480 tons and is similar in size to the USA Navy’s Aegis equipped missile cruisers. It is armed with an anti-submarine helicopter, 48 air defence missiles, 8 anti-ship missiles, torpedoes, mines, long range guns and a comprehensive electronic warfare system. The first-of-class Sovremenny was commissioned in 1985. A total of eighteen have been built for the Russian Navy, eleven of which are in service, six are no longer operational and one more (launched in 1994) is awaiting commission. Two further vessels ordered by China have been launched. The first and the second were delivered in 1999 and 2000. All ships were built at the Northern Yard in Saint Petersburg. Scalemates.com has a listing that confirms this is a 2001 release based on the new tooling from the same year. They have a link to download the complete 20-page instruction set of the original kit (TRP #03612). They show the box art and provide many links to references, aftermarket parts and a review to help you with your build. Daos Craft produced a 26-minute Unboxing Video on YouTube that is entirely in Russian. You get a good look at the parts, but the comments are lost on me. I can’t tell for sure if he likes it or hates it. This kit is in a long box about 36” x 10” x 3.5”. As you can see from the pictures, the package is pristine and is still sealed with the original shrink wrap, so it is factory sealed and absolutely gift-ready. This item contains one complete injection molded plastic model kit with over 800 plastic parts, four frets of photo etched metal parts for railings, ladders, radars, etc., two metal propeller shafts and copper tubes, along with decals, a 20-page instruction booklet and a display stand.
